Spoarkfun thrusters????

Post by Danny »

the generic Rule-looking pumps sold at $15 on sparkfun, are they worth anything as thrusters? I was thinking, since I would like to have 6 thrusters, and the price of pumps has gone up so much lately, that I may try those at first. so, any input on these things?

they are only 350 gph, so if you can live with that, then they appear to be a good deal.

well, I will be using two per side (two port, 2 starboard, 2 foreward/reverse, and then either 1 or 2 vertical thrusters-more like 8 thrusters), so it should work for my purposes.

If you're going to convert them to run props (which I would recommend) I would go with the Mayfair Bilge Pump Replacement Motor Cartridge made by Johnson Pump. There's less work needed to convert them and you can get more power for your money.

I've run tests on these pumps which takes some of the guess work out of it for you too which can be seen here... http://www.homebuiltrovs.com/mayfair750test.html
