Hi from a new addict

Post by kenl »

Hi Everyone, my name is Ken and I'm just starting on my first ROV.

I would like to apologize in advance for all the stupid questions I will be asking

Gidday Ken - good to see another Aussie here. Pretty hard to ask a dumb question I reckon, and there is a lot of good info already posted. Forum has a "search" button at the top of the page. Failing that ask away and folks are happy to help.

Hi Ken welcome to the forum,

The only dumb question is the one not asked... Like Ross said there is a lot of info here all ready and the search function can help but if you can't find what your looking for don't be afraid to ask. Even if it's been answered before no one here will harp on you for asking again. (they better not at least :o )

Thanks guys, I've been lurking around for a few months now and have read a lot of the forum already. Initially I was going to build from a set of plans I bought from http://www.interspec.org/.

There are a number of things in the plans that I don't like or want like 48v shore power and using bilge pump thrusters.

The part that I really can't wrap my head around is the Arduino programing

That said by following this forum I have my PS2 controller talking to my surface UNO and that talking to my Sub UNO (using Rx/Tx until max488s arive) The thing is I don't understand how it works so i can't modify it to suit my sub, it's a bit like I've been copying someone else's homework, actually, that's exactly what I've been doing!

Anyways fun times :D

Welcome!

I spent 3 or 4 days running around Perth, Freemantle, and Rockingham in about 1980 when my submarine put in to the Navy base there. Good people!

Welcome to the forum.

There is a new forum section that Steve just started for programming and one specifically for Arduino stuff. Most programmers don't start with a clean sheet either (I seldom do, anyway). We're all just using ideas we've found in the past or elsewhere and modifying those parts to fit into the current situation. Copy/paste/edit is the root of most programming so don't feel bad.

If you have any specific questions post them there. Lots of great people on here with a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge.
