Hi all,
I'm new here and new to rovs. I'm collecting pieces to start on my first one and I am trying to decide on props. I'm working backwards on the thrusters starting at the props and then moving to the brushless motors so I can be sure to get the right shaft size. I have seen props with set screws (traxxas) but I can't find any bigger than about 1.5". I like the idea of a set screw because then I don't have to worry about prop adapters or things loosening up in reverse.
Are there any out there or am I out of luck?
Thanks
Steve

Re: props with set screws?
I just ran across these...

I was thinking about using these motors...

I know I'm venturing into some weird territorry here, but it would be very cost-effective (just not sure about how regular-effective)
thoughts???

That is a design idea I personally have not seen before!
Seeing as it is pretty cost effective, it may be worth picking up one of each to do a test run! This may lead to having a few extra parts laying around at the end of your build... but you never know!
Keep us posted on which direction you take!

Re: props with set screws?
Well those fans ended up being too expensive once shipping was added.
Now I'm thinking about edf rotors. They run less pitch than a boat prop so I should be able to get away with a bigger diameter without drawing too many amps...I think.
I'll keep you updated.

Re: props with set screws?
I ordered an EDF assembly this week to do a little testing. It is only a 2.75" fan but for $8.75 from Hobby King with shipping I couldn't resist. I want to find out how much thrust the fan produces and the current draw. I suspect current draw will be OK since the pitch of the fan prop is less than the Robbe props I have been using. The motor should turn higher rpms with a lower pitch prop which should help the thrust. I will post results of my testing.
