hi from the uk

Post by turtle »

hi all my names adam iam from the uk and ive been looking into building an rov.
ive started to order a few bits for my build so far ive ordered a HD 720P Waterproof camera and the bildge pumps but iam going to make some sealed housing later with better motors.
the only thing iam having probs with is getting the glass dome for the front but i have ordered some dummy cctv domes to take apart and see if there any good.
my plans is to use some plastic tube to put the camera in and use side thrusters and one cut into the middle of the tube for up and down thrust. ive got a 7in lcd screen that i can use from the av output of the camera. but now iam just waiting for all the parts to arrive so i can start making it lol.

Hi,
my dad brought me from his job in the uk some 6mm Plexi with A 200mm disc = 10 GB. I use a piece of a 200mm PVC Pipe, cut in one of the caps a window and mount it on the pipe by using O-Rings on both sides. The cap will be used as a kind of flange.. that will do for 100m and deeper..
I am looking forward to see some Pics about your ROV building process.. You will find some helpful Infos here by going through the pages..

thanks for that ive just seen some discs on the bay of e, they have them in any size upto 5mm thick. i really want a dome tho so i can tilt and pan the camera and get a good view as my plan is to over weight the rov so it can sit on the bottom and just look around. but the disc ideas sounds a lot easyer lol.

I would stand off to overweight it. The reason is that your props will blow to the ground with every movement and if no current is present, it takes ages the clear the sight. Better is always a very small updrift and correct by using the motors. I will make you more flexible and keeps the view clear..
Lots of Lads here who work with real ROV's confirmed this..

I too started with a 720p camera and when i ordered dummy cctv cams for their domes i found a good working camera in one of them. so now i use a flat disc instead of a dome. how do you plan to pan and tilt your 720p cam?
I have flown an overweight ROV (2 tonne in air. lol) and it was a pain if the tide was behind you as you definately stir up silt with a thing that size.
