First steps for Project 'Titan Uranus'

Just got my first thruster pedestal printed. Fits perfectly!
I'll add a matching decorative ring to the other end of the cowling.

It was inspired by the space exploration program of the '60s, and by my quest for a good seal...

I have decided to alter my plans for my pressure housing. After costing things, I've decided not to have my custom hull made, but use a Blue Robotics 4" hull instead. I know, it's cheating...

I'm also awaiting a delivery of parts from Hobbyking. Hopefully they'll arrive this week and allow me to make some progress. :D

Latest batch of parts arrived, so I can progress with the hardware.

CAD design is pretty much finalised too.

Very nice design. But about the thruster, I see they are only mounted on 1 point? Aren't you afraid of them turning when you put power on them?

No, they are held on with an M6 cap screw and a nyloc nut, which is easily capable of stopping the thruster spinning about the cap screw. I was more concerned about whether the pedestal would shear due to the thrust, but it withstood full throttle on a 2S LiPo. I posted a video of the test in the thruster section of the forum.

I've just received some 3S LiPos so I've yet to test with them. I don't know if there will actually be any difference as I'm not an expert on 3 phase motors or motor controllers. If the pedestal does shear I will add a mounting point on to the ring at the other end of the thruster.

*Edit* Just to expand on why I was not worried about the thruster turning about the mounting screw, the thruster produces about 500g of thrust, or 5 Newtons. The thrust is generated about 50mm (0.05m) from the mounting bolt, so the torque produced is 5*0.05 = 0.25Nm, which is not a lot of torque.

Have you received the enclosure from Blue Robotics? How do you think the value of a premade enclosure compares to a homemade one?
