Anybody tried to use EDF motor?

Goodevening,
I was wondering did anybody look at those EDF motors which are available by several shops online?
The plus I can think of:
- full package, motor with fan and schroud for better flow.
The cons:
- prop is for air not water.
- number of kv (rpms per volt) is very high on cheaper models. But there are boat props for high speed motors.
An example:

Even when replacing the prop with a boat prop some of these units are still fairly priced.

Check out Deakel's build:

I think he has used some ducted fans for his thrusters.

the openrov.com project also use EDF props. they base their system on 800kv motors.
with a high kv motor you wont get any force, and the props will barely move in the water.

I did read the post of Deakel's build a while ago before I found the EDF options, nice post with a lot of ideas to use. As posted the high RPM is a problem for underwater (stared reading on the Open ROV forum before I came here). Fortunally has Conrad a lot of cheap boat props target at high RPM motors. So I think i will give them a call or visit a local boating club to get some more prop info.

If you do manage to get into a boating club and get any tips, be sure to let us know! I have been thinking of doing the same myself, but I am struggling to find a local enough club!

I just bought some 120mm edf from hobbyking and used 1200kv motors. Just basic thrust test in tube appears promising. Will let you know.
