No, they are designed to be exposed to the water. All materials used are of non corrosive and water resistant type. This allows for low maintenance, long life and basically no limit to depth.

so I guess that means they won't qualify for the mate competition. too bad.

Actually i believe there are several MATE teams planning on using them this year.
You could always just ask on the MATE forum.

the mate forum is even less active than this one. I'm not sure I'd get a response there or if it even meant anything.

I reread the safety inspection, and it isn't super clear to me if they would be legal. The rules say the there can be no exposed wires or motors, but reading the bluerobotics specs seems to indicate that the windings are exposed to the water, but are possibly insulated to prevent corrosion.

It would be nice it bluerobotics got in touch with mate and had assurances that their motors were legal. I wouldn't want to show up to the competition and find out my thrusters aren't legit based on an opinion from the safety inspectors there.

From what i have seen on the MATE forum all questions posted in the technical questions section have been answered by someone from MATE pretty quickly.

On November 5th the MATE center shared a post on their facebook page from a team in India talking about their new Bluerobotics thrusters they are using in this years competition.

Seems like an endorsement of their allowance to me.

I have no plans to use them. I'm just curious.
