why would you need a generator and an inverter?

I like your bilge pump clamps. did you buy or fabricate those clamps?

The generator and invertor is to run GUI for long periords of time. I have been able to run GUI for over 5 hours on one tank so far =)

maybe I should have worded my question differently.

both the generator and the inverter make ac voltage. why do you need both?

do you primarily run off a battery and use the inverter to make the ac and just use the generator to charge the battery?

There isnt a need for a battery in this setup. Its all dc voltage passed the inverter. Gui runs on dc power

I'm still not seeing why you need both.

Generator make VAC. Inverter invert VAC into VDC. VDC is use on ROV but he can still use VAC for computer (if he does).

that could be my confusion. I've always heard that inverters convert dc to ac, not the other way around.

if his "inverter" takes in ac and outputs dc, then it is a power supply, not an inverter.

that makes sense.

Yea, I'm confused too. Most American generators generate DC and have a built in inverter which converts to AC.
