New from Northeast Tennessee

Post by Bootyhunter »

Hello!

In the words of Jimmy Buffett "I'm a Pirate 200 years too late". I am a Proffesional Firefighter/Paramedic by trade, and a Part-Time Treasure Hunter by desire. I have been metal detecting for about 5 years. The past 3 years I have been detecting in the water either wading or Hookah Diving. I have found my share of Gold and Silver rings, coins, and old bottles in the water. I have been intrigued by ROV's for some time but always considered them to be some mega expensive equipment that would never be something I could afford, until I happened across the "Home-built" ROV's on the internet. Now my mind is racing with all the potential that these things could offer my hobby. I could use 1 to scope out some deeper sites and see if there are any old bottles or other "treasures" that would be worth recovering. So that is my main interest in the ROV.

Now for the downside, I suck at mechanical/technical electrical stuff. I can use about any equipment around or at least learn to in a short time, but I can't build squat!! I would really like to have something in the line of the Seafox retrofit with the manipulator arm so I am keeping my eyes open for something I can attain for an affordable price. Thanks for letting me join and I am glad that I found this site.

Welcome to the group, you could always start with the book "Build Your Own Underwater Robot and Other Wet Projects" by Harry Bohm and Vickie Jensen (that's where the Seafox came from.) and then just change things to suit your needs.
