Thanks Oceanrov31 for posting the videos and information on AUVs.
The videos were very interesting.
Unfortunately any AUV launched in the waters around where I live would very quickly be swepped away, we have the third highest tidal range in the world. Our currents are quite amazing and in places flow like a fast river, so any AUV launched only has a very small window at slack times to go about its business before it finds itself in deep water

The US Navy has some stuff like that for measuring temperature, depth and salinity. Had some nerd weenies come to my old ship with them to drop them in the middle of the atlantic.
