Re: making cat5 neutrally buoyant

ok, it's been a couple of months as things got busy for me and put my project on hold...back at it now! Just following-up (as I said I would)...I investigated using closed cell cord and rubber cord as way to use a continuous piece to make a tether streamlined and neutrally buoyant. My idea of closed...

Re: making cat5 neutrally buoyant

Hey Micoma, I double checked my cord and it's actually closer to 1/4"...just slightly over (I was going off the top of my head on the last post). It's not something I ordered but had at home on a Pelican Case. They use it on some of there seals. I'm going to get several sizes of samples of this...

Re: making cat5 neutrally buoyant

I'm working on a cat5e buoyant solution as well (and will compare with fiber solution as I'm gathering that info too!). Has anyone had any issues with the air inside the cat5e sheathing?...especially for those that have gone to deeper depths? Perhaps it's negligible, but I think it might obviously m...

Re: Deep dives

Thanks for the input TIgerShark. 900' is a fantastic goal! How far have you made it so far? I've been looking at using Schedule 80 PVC for my Hull...great pressure ratings...but was bummed to find out just how expensive the fittings are. I was also going to make a hydrostatic pressure chamber out of...

Re: Greetings from a newbie in Michigan

Lomax: This is an interesting idea! I'm a newbie too and it seems a few others also use hybrid arrangements which I am now looking into, but this is the first time I've come across your concept. Generally, I don't think we can really charge a battery while it's in use (unless some fast switching is ...

Re: On Board Batteries v. Powered Tether

Thanks. I hadn't thought about a hybrid system before!

Just came across the following post too...cool concept. I have to research it and see if it's something I would apply.

Re: Deep dives

I've reached 65m meters for an expedition at Elba, Italy with ROVERII. There are many things i've learned about this depth. First of all: You need lights, powerful lights! Else you need enough thrust to pull the tether! For me using oil-filed housings is the best way to forget pressure-problems. On...

Re: On Board Batteries v. Powered Tether

Note: I thought about moving this to the Control Systems and Tether thread...but also, as newbie thought maybe other would benefit from seeing it in this section. If you think I should move it, drop me a note. Anyway, a night of sleep and much more reading (great posts spread all over this forum), I...

Re: Want Another Freebie? Let's Talk Buoyancy

Hey Lockdownking,

Just an fyi I came across your post and was going to look at your "freebies". The links on your site don't seem to be working...getting a Wordpress file not found screen.

Looking forward to seeing what you've offered up!
