Re: Fibre optic tether
Hey rossrov, Ok, been meaning to post this info for a week or so now. I finally found a potential solution for the fiber TX/RX with full-duplex, and audio. I've found a couple actually. One very expensive setup, and one seemingly affordable solution, just the wrong size for me but wanted to pass the...

Re: Recapturing Energy from Props?
Interesting concept. I think you're probably right about it being "worth its weight". Not sure what I could do with 3.6V...but a few in series perhaps. Maybe there are other models that produce more. I could see the potential benefits if using a tow behind ROV or one that will run in a riv...

Re: what control package options are out there?
Piercet, I had/have the same plan as you. I was looking for an out of the box (so to speak) control system for my first ROV. With limited time I want to focus on the mechanics/hydromechanics of the design rather than any programming. I opted for the X3_Control system you referred to out of Germany. ...

Re: making cat5 neutrally buoyant
Yeah, the rubber was a bit too dense. In order to make it buoyant I had to use a 1/2" piece just to get enough displacement. It was too buoyant though, and not flexible... Your poly tether sounds interesting. Keep us informed if you find a solution. Meanwhile, I'll begin digesting your mathemat...

Excellent, and thanks for the reply. I did find another recent post for a slip ring by Adrafruit ($25). Looks like there are a few options out there!

Re: Adafruit Ultimate GPS Logger
Hey guys, Fantastic find on the slip ring! I'll be curious to know how it works out for you. At $25 I'll may soon be buying one soon to test myself!
I had just seen Steve Thone's slip ring design...very ingenious design!

Re: TigerShark ROV for exploring Puget Sound
Hey TigerShark, I've seen pics of your project before. Great design and really good work! I'm working on my first one right now. I noticed you shared a few more detailed pics of your whole system. I'm curious about your tether. I don't see any obvious floats. Is yours neutrally buoyant? If so, care ...

Re: Fibre optic tether
Hey guys, I've been on hiatus from my ROV project for a while, but did any of you find a solution for full-duplex converters with video as well? Ideally I am looking for one that can support up to four cameras, but can start with one or two. Although I think the money upfront for the right one is a ...
