Re: Loss of picture
Had the same problem. Some solutions to try are video baluns, isolate power system for the motors from the camera, filter capacitors etc.

Re: Deep ROV project
Why not use the RC controller (TX) to send a signal down the tether with just one wire and have a RC receiver onboard? I like the CG idea, sounds like you have more space to work with than most of our designs. You will have a lot of buoyancy with a tube that size.

Re: A 7 function manipulator...
Do they have hydraulic rotators? I know there are pneumatic ones.

Re: A 7 function manipulator...
Will you have to build a housing for the pump? I wish the stuff was cheaper but it is very specialized. Looks like it will be a $1000+ project but I guess that is cheap compared to commercial stuff!

Re: A 7 function manipulator...
It looks like you are the right track. Those RC hydraulic systems seem the way to go.
I am sure you already know about this one:

What do you expect this to cost?

Re: Cat5 tether buoyancy
You really need a hard closed cell foam for anything below 5-10 feet. Foam insulation board would work up to around 50 feet or so. I found at 60+ it would crush too much.

Re: Cat5 tether buoyancy
You could buy cat 5 that already has a strength member in it (pull rated) and then just put small floats on it every several feet or so.

Re: 120V Ac ?
All commercial systems I am aware of have a ground fault system that run over 48v. I would just work with 48V if I were you. You can use an extension cord or just the conductors from one and be able to pump out enough current to work with over 150 feet length tether. I prefer batteries but I need 30...

With SD and cat5 (one twisted pair) you can use video baluns and get several hundred feet of transmission. I'll be doing 100 meters with passive baluns. Not sure about HD options yet.
