Re: Fibre optic tether

@kenl

Have been following your quest for optical transceiver converters with great interest.
However I am puzzled :? - how do you connect the fibre cable to the transceiver unit whilst still ensuring water and pressure proofing?

Re: Electrona 1 (new pics & video)

@Electrona Superb ROV - nice design. Regarding the tether - where did you buy the hollow braided polypropylene 1/2" rope? I have found some on the web, but it is expensive, compared to standard braid on braid rope. Also - what did you use to thread your cables through the rope? (large needle? a...

That is a very nice piece of setup software - I look forward to using it with one of your boards! :D

Re: Fibre optic tether

Thanks guys - I had dismissed fibre optics for my tether. You have opened the door again :-) I had wrongly assumed :oops: that a fibre optic tether was a) too expensive b) too heavy, with its armoured casing c) impractical for DIY ROVs But sites like http://openrov.com/profile/Beau and http://en.wik...

Re: Fibre optic tether

How far does the cable need to carry the signals you require? Do you need a fibre optic cable for other reasons than distance? RS422 goes to 1000m and RS485 1200m at about 100kbps, do you need more than this distance/speed? Also - a video balun should easily match those distances. A fibre optic cabl...

Re: turtles rov

@adam

Your ROV looked really good! Being welded it appears it would have been able to sustain quite a reasonable pressure.

I wondered which ROV you have chosen to buy?
Do you have any pics of your new ROV?

Re: my relay is keep burning

@eng.hossam Suggested area to investigate further: A remaining question from a previous post by Rossrov is what type of motor are you using? Have you tried a completely different model of motor in your circuit? If your circuit is OK and your relay specification correct then I wondered whether the bu...
