Magnetic couplings are also more difficult to work with...
Now, if we had an unlimited budget (or at least larger one...) and more time on our hands we would definitely go with magnetic couplings. However, we don't and we only need to go 19feet down for 10-15 minutes at a time.

Re: Magnetic Coupling or shaft seals?
Where did you get your shaft seals from? I'm finding it hard to find a 5mm shaft seal.

Magnetic Coupling or shaft seals?
The new MATE competition rules this year force us to inclose any exposed motors (i.e. a brushless motor), and as a result we need a way sealing our motor in an enclosure. Currently we are looking at something involving PVC to house the motor and ESC. Does anyone here have any experience with either ...

Re: Where are you guys buying your motors?
Thanks for those tips! I think we got the voltage part covered
. We have 3 700W high DC/DC converters to convert the 48V we're sending it to 12V (trimmable to 11-13V).

Where are you guys buying your motors?
I'm looking for brushless motors for my ROV and was trying to find different places to compare prices and products. So far the only two places I have found have been hobbyking and my local hobby shops. Where do you guys get your motors?

Prop calculator?
Currently I'm looking at a few different brushless motors for my ROV. Particularly this one: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16233__NTM_Prop_Drive_35_42_Series_1000KV_700W.html and http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18236__Turnigy_D3548_6_790KV_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html They woul...
ESCs
While looking at a few different motors and ESCs on hobbyking I came across their "Boat ESCs". Particularly this one: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24568__HobbyKing_50A_Boat_ESC_3A_UBEC.html . In the picture it appears to be fairly water tight and in the comments people make m...

48V to ~12V regulator
With the MATE ROV competition they require that all voltage conversion be done on the ROV, and that it must be supplied with 48V (with a max of 40A). We're looking at using brushless motors (probably will be 3s), so we will need to power them with ~12v. What kind of regulators have you guys used? We...
