Re: USB webcam over ethernet
Wow great find! Most USB to cat5's at 2.0 speed or upwards of 70 USD, or USB 1.1's that can only go 100 feet for the same price as the one you found. It SHOULD work for getting a signal from one end to the other. However, you may need two pairs of cat5 cables for your line to the Arduino and the cam...

Re: equations of Rov
I don't know any of those that you listed. Drag is usually a very complex equation (I might be wrong on that though). Thruster force is something that has to measured out. I have never tried it, but HERE is a thread, and they got some decent measurements. On the other hand, two important equations a...

Re: Camera/Tether for 500'
If I use an IP camera that sends an optical output, can I buy bulk optical fiber and place the connectors on it and it still work? Of course I would need the optical reciever for up top, and an optical to USB converter (I don't have any optical ports on my laptop). But would this work, with my lapto...

Re: Camera/Tether for 500'
I am definitely considering the composite to USB, because it says that it will work with Processing, and it is something I am relatively familiar with. However I am going to look into all of those options. Fiberoptics....woah, thats some pretty cool stuff 8-) . I will post updates if I discover some...

Re: Camera/Tether for 500'
Great! But now how far can the signal travel through an ethernet (cat5e) cable? Can it be boosted the same way as HERE ? And am I correct by saying that with an IP cam you can have no internet connection, type in the correct address in a compatible browser, and you get the feed coming in through the...

Re: Camera/Tether for 500'
Personally I would be using an IP camera and browser window or some other IP cam viewer and use an Arduino with a Processing window for everything else. I was thinking of an IP camera too, but don't you need an internet connection? Or do I just need an ethernet cable and connect it directly to my l...

Re: Camera/Tether for 500'
To some extant it is, but I also need a camera that can give me a serial output. All of the pcb cameras i have found are RCA. Can RCA be converted to serial? Or do i need a balun and RCA to HDMI adapter (I obviously don't have RCA connection on my laptop). And if I do that, will my laptop still iden...

Camera/Tether for 500'
Okay so I am looking for a camera/tether setup for 500' to 1000'. I currently have a USB Microsoft lifecam5000 hooked up to a cat5 extender , but this will only get me to 130'. If i upgrade to the USB 2.0 speeds, I still will only get 330'. I need a setup where I can deliver live feed to my laptop, ...

Re: JP ROV update
I have those now. Keep in mind it reduces the speed from USB 2.0 to 1.1, giving a very grainy picture usuallyActually, I think I'll use a cat6 converter like this one:
