Re: Fibre optic tether

I did not think about waterproofing. I know I will have to find a way to waterproof the electrical side of the transceiver. But can water get in and mess with the transmission on the optic side?

Re: Fibre optic tether

Okay so here's what I have found so far: Transceiver - for TTL communication between Arduino boards (I still need to find one for ethernet communication too, but didn't want the online tech, or my head, exploding). This specific one uses a duplex LC connector, and I assume single mode fiber (definit...

Re: My ROV

Awesome ROV!!! I'm working on a design for a second ROV that can achieve deeper depths (not sure what yet), and structure wise it is going to be similiar to what you're doing. For your backdoor(by the way, nice machining  ), I see you have two or three O-rings on there. How exactly do they wo...

Re: Deep dives

On another forum someone mentioned not filling the electronics with oil for various reasons (I'd rather not). There may be reasons I am unaware of, but I got to go to Northrop Grumman and they showed us how they work with AUVS(Some seriously impressive stuff too). They actually do fill their electr...

Re: Fibre optic tether

While I do want to call Digi Key, my ROV project is going to have to take a break for the next few weeks  Digi Key is a legit website, with very good (and a huge array of) products based in the US and they know what they are talking about. However if anyone wants quicker feedback they do have a...

Re: Fibre optic tether

Aren't those converters doing the same thing as the transceivers? Or am I just outright confused

Re: Fibre optic tether

Here specifically is where i think the transceivers are that do both TX and RX. Ross: Thanks for pointing out the fact about cat5 being only a connector. I am new to all of this. When I refer to cat5 i actually mean any type of serial, the speed/architecture I will use will be determined when I fig...

Re: Fibre optic tether

This site has some amazing fiber optic transceivers/receivers/transmitters for cheap prices (Under 50 USD). Now I have just touched into optic cable, so I'm not sure if this is exactly what I am looking for. I am just trying to take a cat5 signal and convert it to optic, and then back to cat5. Is th...

Re: Camera/Tether for 500'

Yeah I've noticed that with a lot extenders. I have also noticed that, like the one you linked, is only USB 1.1 speed, which seems to be a reoccurring issue. USB 1.1, with all the data sent while preserving the speed its sent at, can only be cleanly extended via cat5e/6 by 100', and 2.0 to 330'.

For converting signals, THIS PDF will probably be very helpful
