Re: Spartan ROV

Sorry about not updating the thread in a while. I have been really busy lately. I am glad to post a few updates. The frame and arm are designed. I have managed to use brushless motors instead of bilge pumps (hooray!) Currently my tether consists of 2 power cables and a cat5 cable. My frame doesn't u...

Webcam/Sensor Input Over Tether

Does anyone know how we could get 2 webcam signals + some sensor input transmitted over the Arduino? Currently our tether only consists of a + and - wire.

Re: Measuring tool

I'm sure it does, but to get correct dimensions/measurements for underwater use I'm sure tons of work would have to be done on the software side. I also think it might be a bit much overkill, unless maybe you go fishing with your ROV or something. :P

Re: Measuring tool

Touché. We will probably either look at the reading with a camera, unless we can hack it and send it over an Arduino as an input.

Re: Measuring tool

I know light can travel in a vacuum, but I don't think the tool is normally used in a vacuum. lol. We would have a computer do these calculations. We will have a color camera on board so I think we will be able to see the laser and aim it at the PVC.

Re: Measuring tool

Actually I do not think you mean a vacuum. a vacuum is something where no matter exists. In common air, matter does exist and it has a factor of 1.0003 slower. Not much but different. You were right about the water though, being a factor of 1.33. I think if we order this Bosch laser measuring tool, ...

Re: Measuring tool

Yes, we are competing in the MATE competition. Our budget is $300 for this one tool. We raised a lot of money in a fundraiser (selling candy). We also still have a lot of salvageable parts from last year's ROV like the Arduino, frame pieces, and bilge pumps (though i would like to upgrade to brushle...

Re: Measuring tool

≤ 5 cm off true length would be great. Our team has a budget of about $300, but of course we would love cheaper solutions.
We know the object is between 2.25 and 3.75 m.

Measuring tool

Does anyone know any measuring tools that would be effective to measure underwater between two points? I thought about regulating the voltage to motors and recording how long it took to go 1 foot, then seeing how long it took to get from point A to B and do the math, but there are many variables tha...

Re: Spartan ROV

Are you using vectored thrusters, or are you going for the standard two thruster approach? We are going to use vectored thrusters. Thanks for the input. I'll get started on coding an Xbox controller to work as soon as we get a wired controller or a plug n play for a wireless. It looks pretty easy t...
