Motor Life

Post by mikegrundvig »

Hi all; I'm planning a fun TINY ROV for kids to drive around in a 300 gallon fish tank. The tank is 8' x 24" x 30". The ROV will have a very small security camera that will feed video to a monitor next to the tank. It will be driven via an arcade joystick:

With bang/bang style up and down controls handled via arcade push buttons:

As this will be used in a mall shop, it needs to be dead reliable and handle some abuse. I'm looking for any advice on thruster options that can last submerged for long times in an aquarium environment. I know it won't last years without maintenance, but I do need it to be as reliable as possible. We will take it out of the water at the end of every day but I'm concerned that exposed motors wouldn't last very long with the bearings being destroyed.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
