48V to ~12V regulator
48V to ~12V regulator
With the MATE ROV competition they require that all voltage conversion be done on the ROV, and that it must be supplied with 48V (with a max of 40A). We're looking at using brushless motors (probably will be 3s), so we will need to power them with ~12v. What kind of regulators have you guys used? We will probably end up using most of the power available at the 12V, so ideally we'd have a 12V regulator capable of 1500-2000W. Any recommendations?

Re: 48V to ~12V regulator
1500 to 2000 Watt voltage regulator at 40 Amps will be quite large. If your 48V DC supply is top side you will have to calculate the voltage drop, depending on the conductor size used and tether length. Lets say for example you end up after losses with 40VDC Then I suppose you could use these DC to DC converters on the ROV, one per thruster to get your optimal voltage to each motor. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-Converter ... 56438121a9
