Just an idea...We're considering putting a laser pointer in our ROV. It would be mounted to point at exactly where the camera was pointing, to help us figure out just where we're headed.

On Hercules we have two parallel lasers mounted ten centimeters apart on top of the main camera. This gives us an idea of where the camera is pointed but are more there for scaling things by taking a picture with two laser dots that we know are ten centimeters apart we can measure the image and find the size of something in the picture

You know laser 532nm wavelength green laser. They are used usually meant the constellations. Green laser light works through Diode Pumped Solid State laser frequency doubled (DPSSFD).http://www.laserpointersshop.com/
