Indeed Fryslan. :D
yesterday he brought me more...
I now have a wireless PS2 controller. it's a plug and play replacement for the wired one and works great from anywhere in the house.
he also brought my next try at a bidirectional vertical ESC.... not so good...
It won't sync to my motor. :( it just sits there jittering at me. a couple of times it has screamed like a banshee and then run fine until I throttle back then it refuses to sync again.
It also needs to see fwd-neutral-reverse(brake)-neutral- reverse before it will reverse. that's a PITA.
I've tried all combinations of programming using the beeps but it won't sync. (my other ESCs do, so it's not the motor or wiring)
I really need to be able to re-flash the firmware on these ESCs but my spare arduino had died.
Looks like I'll go back to my unidirectional vert ESC and just float up/power down.

I now have three ESCs i've tried.
Simon-K one doesn't go in reverse. (it's unidirectional)
unbranded one throttles back under load, (I think it is detecting low RPM.)
Mystery Cloud one won't sync. (but if it did it would be the best so far.)

Prueba esto a ver si puedes calibrar esos ESC rebeldes.

Un saludo.

Try this to see if you can calibrate those rebel SCEs.

Now i have switched form testing with the arduino to trying to steer it with the python (tcl for ui) software I wrote lots of issues with the calibration of my ESC during start-up. Still trying to get it right. I think I have to dig out my program card again to verify the settings and then see if everything is working and monitor my voltages of the arduino under workload maybe they drop to far.

Thanks guys.
I wish it was a simple as calibration.
The problems show up even on the bench using a "servo tester" to control the ESC's.
I'll investigate flashing them with new firmware so they do what I want not what they want. hahaha...
maybe I've exceeded my allocated ration of luck with this project.
For now I'm back to unidirectional ESC, drive down/float up.
I've re-written my auto depth code to suit.
tonight's job is to splice my new cable and go for a test dive. :D

Hello good morning.

Anyway you don't waste as much time looking at the page I put you in the previous publication, and maybe you solve your problems, using the ESC.h library, and controlling the BEC as it is, and not as a servo.

Well I made a breakthrough today.
I managed to identify this ESC- the one that throttled back under load,

Image

it's a clone of an EMAX_30A.
I soldered wires to it's tiny little chip and flashed it with BLHeli firmware for an EMAX_20A
Then I could configure it in BLHeliSuite software to be bidirectional, and to turn off low RPM protection and set it's min/mid/max microseconds, accelleration etc.
I wired it up to the rov motor and woop woop. it works as I want it to.
happy days!!

luck was on my side yesterday too, I got given a 12ft Honwave inflatable boat with an alluminium floor. perfect for ROV operations.
it just needs a few patches. (it's full of holes) lol.

Me alegro de que hayas solucionado el problema con el BEC. y muy buenas noticias sobre ese bote, que lo disfrutes navegando.

Un saludo.

I'm glad you fixed the problem with the BEC. and very good news about that boat, enjoy it sailing.

well that was going great..... until this happened-

I think one of the motor wires shorted to ground.
I've ordered ANOTHER esc.....
meanwhile i'm back to the unidirectional esc. it works ok. not great but ok.

Hmm i have some of those photos too, blowup serveral components with loud bangs. Always a bummer, glad you have some backup ESC.
