U-DRONE Amethyst AUV Platform

Post by MarcoMota »

Hi Guys,

I am planning to make a Amethyst AUV Platform (https://beobachtung3d.com/) this summer.

This should be the final result:

Here are the pieces I have printed so far...

I already want to ask you something... Do you think a plexiglass pipe with the two caps 3D printed is a good idea (the DIY way) or is it better to buy an already made and tested enclosure? The enclosure I have found and that seems really good is by blue robotics (this one: https://bluerobotics.com/store/watertig ... e3-asm-r1/) what do you think? Have you had experience with their products? Do you know better companys maybe in europe (I live in Italy).

Thankyou for all the help and hope this project will be a fun one :) <><

In the quick tests I did 3D printed caps (even printed at 100% infill) will not be waterproof at depth. I would go with a ready made enclosure like you linked especially if you have some money wrapped up in the electronics.

Thankyou. Yes thats my same thought. Just to go cheap but having it breaking up its not worth it. I will buy from blue robotics then.

Afterwards I will try less important modules in the diy method.

But I agree with you, the central part should be safe.

here is the progress.

So you all advise me to buy blue robotics 3'' series enclosure? I live in europe so the shipping will cost me...

This is the kit I am thing to buy. Maybe the cylinder a bit shorter. https://bluerobotics.com/store/watertig ... e3-asm-r1/

Buenas noches.

BlueRobotics team was amazing! Super fast shipping!

They also included silicon grease the little blue stick and a sticker!

This is the 3'' version.

They seem really high quality pieces.

Its a shame that living in europe I had to pay 30€ just for shipping and now I will also pay the customs duty and IVA which I just recieved and It's really high  .

At least I hope it will work great and will allow me to go deep <><

Heres a little update:

I made the 3D model of the front part. It has a detachable front so that I can insert a camera lens in it if i need or a probe such as a current flow probe.

Beautiful shape, only I think that the watertightness leaves something to desire. I think that you can achieve a better succes with swaping the whole dome if required. Because a flat surface is "easy" to make waterproof.
