Wiring an outrunner for test

Getting ready to do some thrust/amp tests on an outrunner motor that I bought recently. Both motor and ESC were bought from HobbyKing and are matched for their specs. I was wondering if it is important to locate the ESC close to the motor or does that matter so much? Can I put the ESC maybe 4 feet away from the motor or is that a bad idea?

There will be a small voltage drop as the wire length increases. This can be reduced by increasing wire cross section of the wire.
Also there could be a potential sync issue. The ESC does its timings according to pulses coming back up the wire from the motor as it turns (if I'm not totally mistaking).
I have run my thrusters with about 6ft of wire between the ESC and motor without issue though. Your mileage may vary.
Keep it as short as possible to avoid issues I guess? :)

I use this tool to calculate my wire thickness http://www.solar-wind.co.uk/cable-sizing-DC-cables.html
