Hello,

this guy made an acrylic (plexiglass) casiing for his camera, which can withstand good pressures.

However, I believe that this is not the proper way to use an o-ring, because it should reside inside a groove.
What he did is simply use a "top-hat side view" configuration, for the o-ring to reside in.

It would greatly simplify my design if I did the same. However I am wondering wether it is the correct way to do it.

Target depth is 50 meters.

What would you advise ?

The design will work only your biggest problem will be to keep track of your O-ring, since it can easily get loose when the clip is not lashed.

Just select an o-ring that stretches slightly on to the "top hat" part and it wont go anywhere. Also make sure the clearance between the tube and top hat is as tight as you can make it so that you don't risk the o-ring getting forced in between them.

Advantage is that the deeper you go, the tighter the seal gets.

I would have a groove or chamfer the inside of the plexiglass tube and use a thinner o-ring, so the ring is pushed into the chamfer.
His method doesn't support the o-ring so it will get squashed out as water pressure increases at depth.
