[Solved] Pan/Tilt with axes consistent with the dome radius?

Post by Kale »

I purchased a pan/tilt camera platform and I found out that the centre of the pan and tilt axes are not aligned. In other words, the camera lens will not point perpendicular to the dome in all directions.

I would appreciate advice on platforms that are able to point the camera perpendicular to the dome in all directions.

Edit: I found what I was looking for.

Hi Kale,

I hear you.

I'm working on a tilt-only system for mine that will work with a Raspberry Pi camera. The actuator is the same micro servo listed in yours, but it's not integrated into the mount, so it can pivot more 'tightly' if you know what I mean. And since I'm custom designing it I can pick the radius of the pivot. I plan to have it work inside about a 3" diameter dome. The parts will be 3d printed and the actuator arm and pivot points will be (somewhat) adjustable by picking different holes so it should scale up and down a little bit.

Sorry, no help on the pan. The Raspberry Pi cam is on a ribbon cable and I don't think that will last long if I try to have it pan too, also I figure I should be able to turn the ROV pretty easily for looking left/right.

Once I get it ironed out I'll let you know.

Ok, my dome is 150mm (about 6"). I don't think that there will be much trouble to get a proper pan/tilt platform. I just want to check here before I scan the web. Must be cool to be able to 3d print your parts.

Looking forward to see the results.

I found out that this piece was way to big of my ROV.
