Hi, new to all this and starting from scratch. Just a few questions, just using a tv/vcr combo for a monitor, I take it if i am in a remote area I can use a power inverter to convert the dc battery to the ac needed for the monitor. I have bought a Sony CCD 420tvl ir camera, it states it's submersible, is this the case also any ideas where I can get a longer cable for this camera. Help is much appreciated.

Yes in most cases you should be able to use an inverter with a battery for power just make sure your inverter can handle the current the tv/vcr requires. (be careful around water as the inverter is putting out 120 volts.)

As for the camera make sure it's rated for depth and not just "submersible" (some times this only means a few feet)

If the camera cables are standard av cables you can usually find longer extension on eBay.
