Here you can see my easy-to-build Thuster-units using brushless-motor. There are two 45mm 3-blade propellers each side. With housing you will get a very good speed and protection.
I'm using this units for years....

Re: Brushless Thruster-Unit
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great design. Have you ever conducted any thrust tests. If so, I am curious about the thrust and current draw you see.

Re: Brushless Thruster-Unit
Sorry, haven't tested it yet. But for my application it works fine. At full speed running at 9A. Because of the two propellers there is more security at operation. At a dive one prop breaks but the unit works until the ROV come back to surface.

Re: Brushless Thruster-Unit
I like that concept! are both props the same? (right hand vs left hand)
Re: Brushless Thruster-Unit
Yeah good question. I had the same question but if you think about it you will get the right answer . One thing: when the motor turns one prop thrust forward and one backwards
*they have to be the same. if you use two units take one left hand and one right hand to neutralize rotating movement.
i recommend sealing the motor with epoxy: (german link)

Re: Brushless Thruster-Unit
Did those motors come with a long enough shaft or did you install a longer one ?
What are those motors ? Looking for 750 Kv range.
I have a similar idea for my lateral thrusters.
Thanks Bob
