IR laser?

A year or two ago, I was looking at ways to improve the viewing range of my night vision goggles and I found something using a high-power IR laser module with adjustable focus to make a cheap, powerful IR illuminator by spreading the laser beam with the focus (such as:http://odicforce.com/shop/article_OFL18 ... DOFL182%26). I was wondering if this work well in dark water for my rov's underwater lighting?
