Turnigy9x 9ch controller through a cat6 cable.

Post by Spretten »

On the back of my RC controller I can remove the Tx unit. The connection between the units is by a 5pins connector. It seems that only 3 pins are used. 2 are earthed and one is not has no connection on the PCB. I have successfully extend this 3 wires whit my cat6 cable that is 130meters long. The plan is to have both the Tx and Rx inside the ROV vessel. For video I use 2 tv baluns from DX.

Well that's interesting.
Can you skip the tx portion and use that signal as a dsc to a dsc ready receiver?
I am planning on using a DX6i to control my rov so I am especially interested.
Keep us updated.

I have really no idea what kind off signals this is! To bad I don't have any dsc ready Rx to test.

My first idea was to take 2 Rx. Tap the signal inside the first one, right after the radio module on the PCB. Then through long cable down to second Rx in ROV and "inject" signal to the same spot on the PCB. Very small soldering points on the IC, so I gave up the idea.

Just move the Tx seams easier!

well either way I'm just happy to see someone figuring out more ways to make rc controls work over a tether.

I can't see the advantage to computer style control when rc transmitters have what you need off the shelf.

Between the controller and the TX module a signal called PPM is transmitted. this is a signal that consist of all the 9 channels with each of their set point.
you can skip both the TX and RX module, and replace them with either this board in the rov: http://www.foxtechfpv.com/rmilec-ppmpwm ... p-403.html or this https://bitbucket.org/fpvkiwi/channel-wizard/wiki/Home
you can also try to make it on your own with a vero board and components for approx 5$ http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/norcimradioc ... Radio6.htm (look at the RX section)
if you start getting problems with the cable length, you can put a RS422 converter on each side, this will help you get a long distance.
take a look at a design i made a time ago, i have thou not tested this circuit... viewtopic.php?f=15&t=942

So I can use this board in the place of a rx and just use the ppm signal from the trainer port on my DX6I?

yes, that should work.
if you have problems with the cable being to long you can use two rs422 drivers to get longer cable distance. max488 in example. but most people seem to get this working on quite long cables without rs422 drivers.
