I’m a guy from Denmark who has a big interest in what happens under the surface. I’m an educated diver in the Navy
and in my spare time I enjoy searching for wrecks and carefully investigate them.
One day, a few years ago I ran into a few problems, because the depth was too much and the bottom time was too short.
I got the fantastic idea to build an ROV which could assist me in searching at great depths. I start to search on the internet,
and this site has been very inspirational and helpful.
It began with a lot of work in the 3D software Solid Edge.

Some spec. of what I attempt to put inside the ROV
230 VAC from the surface and transformed in the ROV to 2 x 22 VAC and 1 x 16 VAC
The power is rectified to DC
X thrusters:
Two 18 Vdc motors with a planetary gear, I don’t know the ratio.
The force is transferred by a magnetic coupler. I confess that I got the inspiration from this forum.
Two 13 amp power PWM boards for the DC motors
Y thrusters:
Two KV1000 brushless
Two 30 amp ESC for the Y thrusters
The communication between the surface and the ROV is serial communication. I have programmed
two PICAXE 20m2 as my main system.
To control the ROV I use a PS1 controller.

I have an IP camera installed which is connected to my laptop. I use two Powerline Ethernet adapters from Zyxel
to create a network between the ROV and my laptop, then I only need 4 wires: Two for 230Vac and two for
the serial communication.
The result is that, it works, but the first bullet on my “to do better list” is that I have to develop a better
control system e.g. an Arduino or a Raspberry PI. My system has too many limitations e.g. no opportunity
for depth measuring or a compass.
If anyone with experience have anything or just a question please comment. I'm open for input.
