I am looking at a IP camera and asked the seller about the latency. The seller responded that it has a 200ms latency. Would you guys say that that would be to much for navigation?
Also looking into the option of using cctv cameras and using fiber optic media converters for transmitting the feed to the surface. Would this add any significant latency or would this be a better option for keeping the latency down?
IP camera latency
Re: IP camera latency
Should be more than good enough!
I hear the FPV guys that are flying planes and fast multirotors saying that sub 100ms is needed. Understandably as they are moving very fast.
The ROV is more of a slow mover so the need for a very low latency isn't as critical.
I tested the delay in my cheap Chinese IP cam. As you can see, the delay between me actually putting my fingers together and it showing up on the monitor behind is very short.

Re: IP camera latency
Thanks for a quick answer, any other ideas concerning CCTV vs IP? I have a hard time deciding what I am gonna go with.
