700TVL Camera on Old Laptop Monitor

Post by njs552 »

Hi,

Here is a video that shows my ROV video system setup.

Here are all the components that I mentioned in the video except the LCD.

-700TVL Camera: http://www.ebay.com/itm/700TVL-1-3-SONY ... 3f27cafc0e

-Composite to VGA Converter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190596379150?ss ... 1439.l2649

-Laptop LCD Controller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/110977522562?ss ... 1439.l2649
--You must let the ebay seller know your display's model number, as each board is specific to one certain model.

I really like this setup, and I plan to mount that monitor inside of my surface control box once I design it. Even through the entire setup cost almost $100, that is still about the same as a regular monitor with all the camera stuff, but much smaller and powered @12vDC!

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
njs552

Thank you! I guess I just managed to get a lot done in the past few days. :)

It takes a surprising amount of work to make a video about something, believe it or not! I am going to try and make a wiki page as well to put all the results in one place.

Thanks. I always make sure to have everything documented so people can replicate my setup if they want to. There are a lot ofgood ideas that I see that I cant find any more information on, but some people want to keep their methods and systems private, and I understand that.

Thanks,

Great video - very informative.

Nice find on the camera as well. I have a backup camera that's about half the price, but it's not suitable as the image is reversed and there are parking lines that are overlaid on the video. Yours has the ability to turn mirroring on/off, as well as the parking lines.

Does the camera come with an OSD control? From the docs it looks like it's built into the cable harness. Can you confirm?

Thanks!

I realized that the link I posted was not the exact camera I have, so here it is. http://www.ebay.com/itm/700TVL-1-3-SONY ... 3f27cafc0e
Link is also fixed in original post.

Yes - the OSD control is built into the harness - see the picture in link below. I should have included that in the video, but I never even thought to show that.

Have you used your ROV underwater yet?

I've been struggling to get video from underwater onto a screen that I can see well enough to drive mine. The recorded video plays back on my laptop fine, but I just can't see it well enough in my box to drive it. I have a similar setup to yours, where an old LCD with an ebay controller is displaying my video.

If you have used it, can you comment on how well you were able to see?

Thanks.
