Adding ballast queries

Post by Louis_Cha »

Hello again,

I have a plumbing pipe frame to my ROV, making it positively buoyant, and thrusters for ascending/descending. I need a method of adding/subtracting ballast in a variety of places, to make it neutrally buoyant and level in the water.

Does anyone have experience with this? I was thinking about cages for pennies or gravel.

My budget is very limited so a compressed air buoyancy system probably is out of the question.

Hi Louis_Cha,

When your ROV is made of non compressing materials you only need to balance it once, with some lead or batteries for on board power. So the ROV sits neutral in the water. In the case you want to pick up stuff from the bottom you need to be able to adjust your balance of have a powerful enough motor to compensate in that way for the addional down pull.
