Viking ROV

Post by Technoviking »

Hi all,

ive just finished building my ROV frame/hull, my inspiration came from Electrona's ROV which I thought was a fantastic robust design. I liked the idea of a solid rigid framed, I made it from a 13mm thick chopping board (Thanks Squidwood for the idea). The lights have been built using Steve's design using plumbing fittings (thank you Steve), they have been painted and are now drying. I will post pictures as I add more components. :D

Looking good, I've built my camera housing now, have a nosey and give me a shout if you need any information.

I based based mine around electronas design purely as I liked the look of it.

Keep up the good work.

I have just finished the camera housing made from PVC and a dummy security dome. I have only mocked it up without gluing or sealing the unit, total cost $25 :)
Now i need to figure out how to fit it to the Hull, im guessing I will have to fabricate something from stainless flat bar, to make a clamping mount.

That's very cool!

For the mounting part, why not design something and have it 3D printed out of plastic?

Looks like it would fit on most home printers and there are a few of us on here who could print it for you (or you could order it from one of the online 3d print-houses). Alternately you could prototype in plastic and then order it made of aluminum or whatever from one of the online print-houses once the design is good.

I'm planning to do a similar thing with mine. It will be made of several pieces that will screw together around the 3" PVC and then have extensions with holes in them to bolt other stuff to it.

Just a thought.
