ELECTRONIC COMPASS
My ROV is intended to work doing visual inspection to hulls. What can I use to know the heading of the ROV, considering that the ferromagnetic material of the ships will affect the readings of any compass.

Re: ELECTRONIC COMPASS
I don't know much about hull inspection, but would a general heading (ie bow, stern, starboard, port) be accurate enough? the reason I ask is because you may be able to "calibrate" a general heading before diving, then have a heads up display or overlay on you video screen that always indicates the direction of the bow for example.
if you then had two on board compasses and compared the north heading between then two, you may be able to get close enough to at least display general headings.
these can then be compared to the heading of the boat post dive to give you accurate headings or positions...
this is just a theory...
