Measuring depth

Post by mikec »

I'm looking at various ways of measuring depth. My ROV has a 3mm PVC hull containing the camera, ESCs, battery and an Arduino. I know that theoretically the air pressure remains at nominally 1 atmosphere at depth, but PVC pipes are not fully rigid and so distort a little under pressure. Does anyone know if this distortion is detectable, perhaps with a barometric sensor, or a piezo cell attached to the back cover?

Hi mikec. Do an internet search or wikipedia "strain gauge" . May suit your requirements.
