Camera in oil?
Has anyone tried running a camera in oil? I looking at using a ccd camera with the option of filling my sub with oil. I'm mostly concerned with any air spaces in the lens and problems with light traveling through water then a plastic dome and then oil. Will my image be distorted significantly by the different media?

Re: Camera in oil?
I would say that any camera submerged in oil (given that the thing itself is liquid proof) would not work out so well. There will probably be some bubbles in front of the lens, and if it is an auto-focus lens then forget it. With manual focus, I guess you could focus out of the oil and into the foreground, but that doesn't seem so promising.
But who knows for sure

I know it is an old thread , I have read so many a have not replayed because of age.
If you want to fill a space and not get distortion fill it with compass oil. It is used under a compass dome to float the rose with out distortion the rose is still clear and in focus. It is thin and any bubbles will be above the lens.
