Dome Supplier UK - Untested

Post by KR2_Diving »

Hello All,
Was hoping you could comment on the following.

I found a UK supplier for acrylic domes. The price seems really good! HOWEVER, i am not sure the domes will be durable enough to meet my demands. I would like a dome that can withstand 7Bar (~100psi).

The listing for the 100mm dome has a 20mm flange, but the acrylic is only 2mm thick, (possible thinner near the center of the dome.)

I already wrote the the company, and they stated that they do not pressure test their product.

Any comment on weather or not this will be thick enough?

Thanks,
Ryan "KR2_Diving"

Hey Ryan, I had my dome custom built to my specifications from a US based company. The prices are fantastic and they will build you a dome whatever diameter you want and from materials up to 1/4" thick.

A 4" dome .080" thick at 100 psi...... I dont think I would trust it to hold much more than 50 psi. I had a 1" thick piece of polycarbonate 10" in diamater crack at 160 psi, but then it was a flat sheet and not a dome....... at the same time ive put 100 psi into a plastic pepsi bottle and it held...for a while any way.....
