Camera Hack

Any one heard of a way to hack a camcorder to get the camera portion out and use it under its own power? I have a camera I can use initially but it is a low quality system. I would like to use a old camcorder I have.

I know a few people how just make housings and use the whole camcorder utilizing the video out feed. Then they can record as well as have a live feed.
