Simple thruster housing

Post by steve918 »

Here's a quick video of the trusters I put together for my build. This is my first ROV, so I hope to have more videos as it comes together.

BOM for truster:

500 GPH Johnson/Mayflower bilge cartridge - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AZ6D3
Propeller, Left, 4mm: Villain EX - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006O5GG8
3" x 2" ABS reducing fitting - Purchased at Home Depot
2 coarse thread screws ~ 1/4" length. I just happened to have these lying around. I think they were a pull from some old computer. You might have to experiment or attach the pump with resin or glue.

Update:
I tested it tonight and it it is pulling 4.25Amps fully submerged putting out a pretty decent amount of thrust.

Neat built. How do you drill holes in plastic at an angle like that? Drill press + modified lip on the drill bit?

Noting special, I just drilled the 1/2 holes (starting with a smaller bit working up) with my hand drill at about a 45 degree angle, perpendicular to the reducing flange. This left behind a bit of a lip that I knocked off with a Dremel.
