Joystick controller to replace Xbox360 or Logitech F310

Post by SSN626B »

Hi All,

For those of you with either a BR1 or BR2 ROV, here is my completed joystick controller that can take the place of either the XBox 360 or the Logitech F310 and uses a HFX Hall Effect joystick and 10k 1% linear pot to take the place of the two resistive style joysticks.

Forward, backward, left/right lateral and left/right yawing movement is done with the Hall Effect joystick while vertical thruster control (ascend/descend) is done with the 10k pot.

The camera tilt, thruster gain, and lights are controlled by the three momentary, center off toggle switches on the top of the console.

The joystick console works fine with both Windows 10 and the BR rev 6 version of QGC.

Cool ... it looks very professional. What are all the other buttons for?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the kudos, much appreciated.

To answer your question about the button functions:

The three black buttons along the bottom of the front panel control the ROV modes: manual, stable, and depth hold.

The two buttons (black and yellow) next to the joystick control camera center (black) and input hold (yellow).

The two buttons (black and red) control disarm (black) and arm (red).

The yellow button on the top of the cabinet is the shift button.

The three ON/OFF/ON spring return switches control the camera tilt, thruster gain and light brightness.

The control knob controls vertical thruster rate of ascend/descend.

The joystick is a HFX three axes Hall Effect type and controls forward/backwards, right/left lateral, and right/left yaw.

Would you be willing to share your build and any schematics / diagrams that show how all your controls go together with your ROV. I am new to all of this and trying to understand what I need to learn to get a very good control system and functional ROV with options.

Thanks in advance,
Dan
