I just ordered a board mounted surveillance camera that includes a pig tail and connector for 12VDC power and another for video out which is called "BNC Video Out". It features a 1/3″ 960H Sony ExView Super HAD CCD II. I have a spare computer monitor that I would like to use for a camera monitor. It is a Samsung 941BW and it has two video inputs: one "RGB in" and one "DVI in".
So, how can I connect the camera to the computer monitor without involving the use of a computer? Do I need some sort of interface card to do this or just an adapter cable? Maybe I can find a card that allows use of the monitor plus provides recording ability as to an SD card? No matter what I need for this, I could use some direction as where to get it/them (cheap!).
Many thanks,
Randy
Connect camera to computer monitor?
Re: Connect camera to computer monitor?
I don't have an answer to your question but have you thought about the power requirements of the computer monitor? What power source are you planning on using?

Not to worry, it will be aboard ship with ship power.

Re: Connect camera to computer monitor?
I found these two items. Will either of these work if I also buy an RCA to BNC adapter?

Actually I think this is the one that might work, not the one I previously cited.

Re: Connect camera to computer monitor?
That last one should work.
I am in Bremerton so not too far away. I am hoping to use my old laptop screen at some point for a built in monitor in my pelican case.

Re: Connect camera to computer monitor?
This is the adapter I ended up ordering for composite video (BNC) output to VGA input. I bought this one because of the many good reviews and it specifically stated it could match my 1440 X 900 LCD screen resolution.

It is bare bones so I also bought a 5V wall transformer and BNC male to RCA female adapter so I can run an RCA cable from it to my camera. I will post again after I try it out.

rehoward
There is a lot of info on this site but you have to search for it, not much going on theses days.
About 17 post below yours is a description of exactly what you are trying to do, surveillance camera to a monitor.
I use a rca to digital converter and run through and record on my laptop . Also you could just hook direct into a television
As to your control system I cant help
