Cheap and easy Camera? Adapters?

Post by Hex »

I have most of my parts gathered for my ROV. Now I'm down to the camera and the live video feed. I'm doing this first ROV pretty much all manual since I've never dealt with anything like an Arduino yet and I plan on learning that later (I want this ROV done by the end of summer).
I would like to view video on either a laptop or tablet (although an FPV headset would be nice).

So I've been looking at various camera. Trying to keep the camera itself below $25 so I can still meet my $250 budget).
I'm HOPING to transmit video over an ethernet cable, which is where things get complicated.

I've been looking at something like the Sony 600TVL as its a common camera used for ROV and RC FPV setups.
(Yes, I know I can find it $10 cheaper if I look hard enough)

My question is with the BNC video connector. 100 ft BNC video cables are fairly cheap. Like $10 for 100 ft. I take it the ideal scenario would be to just use the BNC cable to bring video topside and then use an adapter to connect it to my laptop? Or would it be more wise to use an adapter in the ROV to run it over an ethernet cord as they are equally as cheap?

Does anyone have a reasonable and cost effective solution for a camera and which 100 ft cord to use with it? No Arduino. Just a simple camera and tether solution. complete from the lens to what I need for my laptop/tablet?
