Some tips from the youtubes

Post by olegodo »

Hi everybody!

I haven't seen anyone mention "SV Seeker" here on these forums yet.
Basically, it is a couple that's building their own "origami" sailboat in their back yard. All steel construction and pretty decent size.
But this winter and ongoing, they are also building a quite advanced ROV. Capable of diving 3000ft and with multiple cameras and sonars.

I really like following their progress and really like some of the solutions they come up with so solve different problems. I also really like their down to earth approach to everything. And sense of humor :P
I recommend have a look at their youtube site https://www.youtube.com/user/submarineboat

Maybe especially the clips about thrusters and electrical bulkheads.

This one shows testing with different props. Power draw, force and so on.

This one shows how they are making electric bulkheads able to withhold above 2500psi of pressure

And this one, that shows how they modify their outrunner motors with potting compound and bushings to ensure a longer life running in seawater (warning, some "bad" language in this one :P ) .
This is also the same approach I am taking with my thrusters.
