Starting my very first ROV

Post by brang »

Hello guys, i'm trying to build my very first ROV. First of all, i'm working on thrusting. I got this guy, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... 850kv.html , and as a propeller, i got the propeller of a fan. But, it didn't work out well when testing in water. The motor stopped as soon as i speed up a little. I have a lot of things as my suspect of this failure. The propeller or the rpm of the motor? I'm aware that the pitch of the propeller i used is quite big though. :D Plz give your advice on my case.

The expected dimension of my ROV is 50mmx30mmx35mm, around some where there. Expected depth to dive is around 3,4 m. I would like to know which dia, pitch and no. of blades of propeller should i use in vertical thruster. Plus, which KV and Watt motor do you suggest to use? Btw, i'm planning to use 3 brushless dc motors, one for vertical and two for fwd/rev.

Hoping for your advice. :)

Sounds as temperature or overload-action by the esc.... What ESC (ampere) you use? Which ESC?

ha ha, may be. :D This is my first one so i really have no idea how big my ROV will be. It might become 2-3 times of that size after a month or two. :D

Well, independent of the not running problem, don't you want an ESC with reverse?
That one being for aircraft is forward only I believe.

I'm planning on using reverse esc. It's just that i'm testing it out with what my friend has. Do you find anything in particular that was wrong?

It does sound like a problem with the ESC.
Try removing the prop and running just the motor in the water.
