Retro- Retrofit Seafox

Post by Ian MacKenzie »

This will be my version of Steve Thone's retrofit Seafox. It's my first ROV. I'm going with this one because it's basic and I really want a manipulator. I figure if I'm spending all this time and money to go down and look for cool things, I should to be able to pick them up and take them home.
This is a work in progress. I'm constantly coming up with new ideas and changing the blueprints that exist in my head.
I'm posting pictures of what I have so far and will add more as I go along. Please speak up with any hints, tips, ideas or suggestions.

My computer's being an A-hole tonight, and it's late, so the pictures will have to wait.
I will get them posted, I promise.

Moving the side prop inside the frame raised the overall height. If it wants to nose up I might just re-build the frame work.

I found this threaded/pressure ring adapter at Rona. It's a perfect fit for the Rule pumps(1100 gph anyway) With the locking ring, it doesn't move. With out it, it can be moved a little. The back end is flared about 4mm, just enough for a mounting bolt head.

Just a regular pvc end cap. Cut a notch for the wires, drilled three holes around the outside for set screws and a counter sunk hole through the bottom to mount it.

Wow, that looks great! Nice find on the PVC stuff. (My design is looking more like a failed plumbing experiment than an ROV  :), can't argue with the functionality and suitability for our stuff though, right?)

Is everything working the way you want it to?

How long have you been at it?

I started it when i was off work recovering from a hip replacement. The idea was to build and use it before i went back to work. I've been back 6 months. But it's getting there. I'm still trying to find something to float my tether that won't compress at depth.

Well it looks really good. I've been 'building' mine for over a year and I have a box of parts that may or may not one day be part of the final ROV.... :)
