m_g did you have any success with the non DSC radio? I picked up a JR XP6102 with DSC and used the channel mixing feature for full stick control. It took a little reading and research to understand the lingo associated with RC gear (I had zero RC experience) and to my amazement managed to get all the function and controls working perfectly.

Hi biker bones,
Haven't had a chance to experiment yet as ive just started a new job, but great to hear you've had some success. I hope to get onto it over the nextt few weeks so may have to email you if I get stuck!

One question i have. On my controller, the throttle stick is not spring loaded. Is yours like that? And if so, what function did you use that stick for?

what tx do you have? most name brand vendors (futaba, spektrum, etc) either have the spring inside or sell the parts to necessary to add the spring to the throttle stick. unfortunately for the turnigy 9x, the parts aren't available.

Hi m_g, My radio controller is exactly the same way. I have setup the controls to do the following.

The gear up and down switch I will have a "servo relay" to operate the on off function of my lights.

For the left stick I used the throttle (up and down) for my camera tilt function (no pan).

Stick to the left dives and right submerges.

Right stick is set up for both left and right motors. Stick forward (up) both motors forward, stick reverse (down) both motors reverse.

Left movement is right motor forward left motor reverse. Right movement is left motor forward right motor reverse.

I also have the ability to move the stick diagonally which controlls each motor indivdually in either forward or reverse.

I opted to buy Lipo batteries, 5000mAh 11.1 volts a total of 4 in a parallel bank.

That sounds very cool, and your pics in the other thread look awesome, it's coming together well!
How did you power multiple escs with your batteries in parallel? Once your one pos. and one neg. wires come off the battery bank, how do you split it to power more than one esc?

I basically built a copper buss bar for the connections. Here is a basic diagram how it connects. * Note I used one of the ESC BEC circuits to power the RX. All other ESC in the circuit have the center conductor (red in my case) removed from the socket and insulated with a small piece of heat shrink.

hi i am new here and have a couple of questions?
1. i like the idea of using r/c control trough cat 5 cable would solve a lot of the problems i have been thinking about. can any one here tell me the best make and model of transmitter that will allow me to plug it into a tether. also what length of cat5 cable can i use.
2. i want to put a camera in the rov and to be able to record as well as see the picture as i guide the rov around under water. do i need a separate cat5 cable to send the video signal trough. also any recommendations on a suitable camera system that will not break the bank.
3. i also plan as cash allows to add temp pressure and compass sensors how is this best achieved and the information recorded and viewed.
i am starting to build this weekend so any help appreciated.

i am building my rov based on the open rov idea but mine will have two tubes one for batteries and escs the other for camera and sensors
i will post pictures when i start and as i progress. but i was not suggesting connecting the r/c arieal to the cable.
i believe some r/c transmitters have sockets used for training ect.
i thought that the signal could be got as a digital signal that way and then sent down the cable. but i may be wrong on this

Hi BigAL99, the radio you are seeking is a computer radio. These radios give you channel master and slave options i.e. channel 2 can be programmed as a master and channel 3 as a slave so one stick movement operates both 2 and 3 identically. They also have channel mixing capabilities where you can program channels to do such functions as one motor forward and one in in reverse. The cable connection is called a DSC (direct servo control)

It operates over a pair of wires in your tether and does all your radio functions without transmitting a signal over the air. I have read on another thread that they can operate this way on 200 feet of cat5. Im not sure what the maximum distance is yet, still have to test it. That frees up other wires in your tether for cameras etc.
