I have great respect for the Autodesk Maya software. If I understand correctly, you are referring to the fact that the animation movements are scripted with Python? Otherwise, you should be able to easily create your interface with Maya. However, I do not really know much of anything about either Python or Autodesk Maya, other than what you can do with it.

On that note, you still should be able to use Maya if it does indeed use Python. Look in the documentation for Maya on the Education Community. Their should be something there that could help you.

If you like programming, I would advise that you learn VB, just because it is relatively simple to use (if you know what you are doing). I personally can't seem to grasp programming logic, but that is because I am only a wanna be programmer! :ugeek:

Maya's scripting language aka python allows the user to create anything from interface to animation to special effects. On a side note I DON"T like programming.
