That tether and reel setup is exactly what I have used recently. Un-plug to roll-out and in. Years ago though I made a camera coax reel (using garden hose reel) and made a slip ring/rotary joint out of a 1/4" microphone plug and socket. Worked well, with no noise showing in the picture.

For now I have stayed away from hydraulic actuators and things but will keep your offer in mind, thanks. There is another thread going at the moment where a member is using hydraulics for grabber. How did the spotlight connection go?

Hi rossrov, how's things? The lights, I found some cheap pond lights and adapted them, instead of soldering wires straight onto gu10 spots I used the push in connector for them and epoxied that into the housing so being able to epoxy the wires and change bulbs without disturbing the epoxy, the spots are a very neat fit in the pond light housing, I am having a few probs with the relays for my controls but I'm not failing, more just finding lots of ways to make it not work ha ha!! How's your rov going? Any plans for a new build?? I am using this as a play around to iron out creases and fine tune then going to build a monster!! So will be busy!! Sorry, (WE) will be busy ha ha ;-) I'm not away again for 3 weeks so hope to get a fair bit done before that

Sounds like things are moving along for you. I'm not doing any ROV projects as such at the moment but similar technology keeps cropping up for other jobs.
